When I was a young man I would hear about my spiritual mentors going into seasons of learning. I never quite understood what they were talking about because I considered everyday to be a chance to learn. It wasn't until I stepped into ministry myself that I truly grasped what this season was all about. I liken it to Moses' mountain experiences. In the Bible, Moses went up onto the mountain of God and stayed there for "many days." In this time, God himself would teach Moses the lessons that would be the laws on which the Hebrews would set their lives upon.
As I read these scriptures I realized this is what is meant by a season of learning. We spend all of our lives learning from life, others, etc but it is those special moments of life when God comes to us personally to teach us a lesson that is meant only for us and no one else. The lesson that God taught me was a hard one that was no fun to go through. Feeling much like Job, I felt like I was fighting for each breath and while I was enjoying a time of great spiritual success I faced a time of great turmoil. The many lessons that I found during this time helped to shape the vision and spiritual outlook for myself as well as my ministry and I will be slowly sharing those insights with the young adults and any who choose to read my words.
For those that have endured the ramblings thus far, here is one truth that has been cemented in my life these past few months. "We do not have because we do not ask." God has placed a huge vision in my life for this year and rekindled my spirit to again to look at the future and ask "why not" instead of caving to the pressures of this world that tell me it cannot be done. We serve a God that created the universe and owns everything on this world, so tell me why can't we do great things. In August of this year I want to help God to reach every young adult of the interior of Alaska through the Aurora Movement. I want to bring in bands, special speakers, and put on a spiritual gathering that has never before been seen in the state of Alaska.
So I ask you as you read, are you going to give a million reasons why this cannot happen or are you going to join me in asking why not.
